Yussef Dayes (born 1993) is an English drummer who has been prominent in the South London Jazz scene. His dynamics and colorful sound on the drum are a blend of different style such as afro, fusion and rock.[1][2]

His most known works includes his duet with keyboardist Kamaal Williams who released the Black Focus album as well as another duo album with the English singer and guitarist Tom Misch, What Kinda Music[3]
He also has gone on to release solo work such as Love is the Message, Welcome to the Hills or Live at Joshua Tree.[4], on his solo work he often plays with bassist Rocco Palladino and keyboard player Charlie Stacey.[5]

Early life

Dayes was born in South East London in 1993, and is of Jamaican descent from his father's side. His father, who played the bass guitar, gave Dayes his first drum kit when he was 4 years old.[2] On that same age, he began performing with his brothers Ahmad, Jamal and Kareem.[5][6][1] In the household, Dayes' mother played country and 1960s pop music, while his father listened to reggae and jazz, with Dayes taking the most interest in the latter.[2][1] At ten years old, he was tutored by drummer Billy Cobham, and Dayes would soon form the band United Vibrations with his brothers, where they played afrobeat and "rock-influenced" jazz.[1][2]
