Daniel Williams (born on January 18th 1996), better known as Yung Willis is a Nigerian artist, record producer and songwriter. His first production credit was in 2018, on the track "Sweet Boy" by Nigerian rapper Falz, following this release he has produced chart topping records for several African and international artistes including Davido, Timaya, Kizz Daniel, BNXN, Tekno (musician), Kanika Kapoor and American rapper Ludacris[1].
Willis launched his own record label called Royals Music[2].
Early Life
Yung Willis was born and raised in Abuja, Nigeria. He is the last of three sons, one of which is Steve Willis, a gospel singer based in Abuja. Willis has always loved music, he joined his church choir at an early age and later his high school choir where he competed nationally[3]. He attended Afe Babalola University (ABUAD) where he graduated in 2015, with a degree in International Relations. He started learning about music production while in secondary school and began getting paid for his productions when he was in University[4].
Musical Career
2018 - 2020
He began his career in the music industry with the production "Sweet Boy" by Falz in 2018[5], they worked together again the following year to produce the track "Talk", this song won a Headie award in 2019 for the Best rap single in 2019[6]. In 2020, he produced hit records "Highway" by DJ Kaywise featuring Phyno and "Squander" by Falz featuring Niniola where he worked with the amapiano sound[7]. In 2021 Yung Willis produced and released a number of chart topping records including "Cold Outside"[8] by Timaya featuring Bnxn and "Celebrate me' by Patoranking. He also won the award for the "Producer of the Year" for the Under 30 CEO Platform Awards [9].
2022 - till date
Willis worked with top artists in Africa and produced "Mufasa" by Tekno (musician) [10], "Traboski" by Bnxn, "Astalavi" by Zlatan (musician) and Young Jonn[11]. He also co-produced "Buga" by Kizz Daniel featuring Tekno (musician) which became one of the biggest Afrobeat records of the year[12]. In June 2022, he launched his own record label called Royals Music where he plans to create a space for creatives to be discovered and developed [13]. He then released his debut single titled "Givin Dem" featuring Timaya alongside the Kabusa Oriental Choir. This song is an allusion to his popular production tagline 'Willis Give Dem' is the first single off his first upcoming album, named Life of the Party (LOTP)[14].
In 2023, Yung Willis co wrote and produced the record "Legends Can Never Die" by Davido on his latest album Timeless.
