Youssef Khayat (born 11 March 2003) is a Lebanese professional basketball player who currently plays for Sagesse Club in the Lebanese Basketball League and the Lebanon national team. A 6-foot-9 forward, Khayat previously played college basketball for the University of Michigan and Bowling Green State University. He began his professional career with Limoges CSP in France.
Early Life and Background
Khayat was born in Beirut, Lebanon. He started playing basketball at age five after being enrolled in a youth program to improve coordination. He quickly advanced through Lebanon’s youth basketball system, earning spots on the national U16 and U18 teams by age 13.[1]
In 2018, after attending a basketball camp in France, he was recruited by Limoges CSP. He and his mother relocated there so he could join the club’s academy.
Club Career
Limoges CSP (2018–2022)
Khayat played for Limoges CSP’s U21 team and participated in Pro A (Betclic Élite) games. In the 2021–22 season, he averaged 16.8 points, 7.7 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game across 32 appearances.[2] He recorded career highs of 33 points, 16 rebounds, and 7 steals in individual games.
University of Michigan (2022–2024)
Khayat joined the University of Michigan in 2022. Over two seasons, he appeared in 26 games and earned Academic All‑Big Ten honors in 2024.[3]
Bowling Green State University (2024–2025)
Khayat transferred to Bowling Green in April 2024. In the 2024–25 season, he played six games, starting five, and averaged 8.5 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, shooting 53.3% from the field and 93.8% from the free-throw line.[4]
Sagesse Club (2025–present)
In July 2025, Khayat signed a three-year contract with Sagesse Club of Lebanon.
National Team Career
Khayat represented Lebanon at multiple youth levels, including the 2017 WABA U16 Championship and the 2018 FIBA U16 and U18 Asian Championships. He made his senior national team debut in November 2021 against Indonesia during World Cup qualification.[5]
He was part of the Lebanese squad that won the silver medal at the 2022 FIBA Asia Cup, averaging 5.3 points per game. In the 2024 FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, he averaged 12.7 points and 5 rebounds per game.[6]
Playing Style
Khayat is recognized for his length, defensive versatility, athleticism, and off-ball movement. He is effective in transition and cutting to the basket. Areas for development include outside shooting consistency and ball-handling under pressure.[7]

Personal Life
Khayat is the son of May Darwish and Haitham Khayat. His mother relocated with him to France to support his career when he was 15.[8]
