Yan Shi Zhang (Chinese language: 张岩石) was born on August 28, 1969 in Bukit Timah Hill, Singapore is a Chinese venture capitalist, entrepreneur, and philanthropist. He is the founder and CEO of Polaris Venture Fund. In 2018, he was invited to join Skuchain and served as board chairman. He is engaged in the work of IT core technology, financial technology, medical care, AR/VR, robotics, drones, space technology, Blockchain, and other cutting-edge technologies that have great value to society. Shi Zhang is now active in the field of Blockchain and Cryptocurrency.[1][2]

Early Life

Yan Shi Zhang born on 1969 in Bukit Timah Hill, Singapore. He studied for a master’s degree in financial mechanics in the Department of Finance from National University of Singapore in 1990, and also did his MBA from Harvard Business School in 1998.[3][4] Shi Zhang is the principal of 500 Startups in Greater China from 2002 to 2004.[5] He became one of the Silicon Valley venture capitalists, and he took the lead in leading international venture capital funds to open representative offices in Mainland, China, and conduct local investment business.[6][7] 1-12

Shi Zhang has invested in companies listed in the United States, such as Baidu, Hongkong, and Focus Media:

  • Invested in Aerohive Networks (NYSE: HIBE) in 2006.[8]
  • Investment partnership of $10 million in 2007.
  • Invested in the market capitalization of Polaris venture fund of $48 million in 2013.
  • Invested in Chime Bank in 2013 of $14.5 billion of valuation in 2020.
  • Invested in Woomoo (acquired by Priceline) in 2013.
  • Invested in Orbeus (acquired by Amazon (company) in 2013.
  • Invested in Ozlo (acquired by Facebook) in 2013.
