Yamato Okunitama is a kami, the of Yamato Province

They are the Ujigami of and worshipped at Ōyamato Shrine[1]

They appear in the Nihon Shoki.[2] They used to be worshipped in the Imperial palace[3] But Emperor Sujin was disturbed by the presence of two competing kami, Yamato Okunitama and Amaterasu Omikami at his palace, and promoted Amaterasu over him.[4] [5][6][2] This may be responsible for Amaterasu being the main deity of Shinto today.[4]
