Microsoft developed and owns the Xbox video game brand, which is marketed to children and adults alike. Five video game consoles, as well as apps (games), streaming services, an online service known as Xbox network, and a development arm known as Xbox Game Studios, are all part of the Microsoft Entertainment and Sports division. The Xbox brand was originally presented to the public in the United States in November 2001, with the release of the first Xbox video game system.

After the Atari Jaguar was phased out of production in 1996, the original device was the first video gaming system provided by a major American corporation. As of May 2006, it has sold more than 24 million copies worldwide. According to Microsoft's official website, the Xbox 360 was launched in 2005 and has sold a total of 84 million units worldwide as of June 2014. The Xbox One, the third system, was launched in November 2013 and has already sold more than 50 million copies worldwide. The Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, the fourth generation of Xbox consoles, were launched in November 2020. Phil Spencer is the current CEO of Xbox, having taken over for previous CEO Marc Whitten in late March 2014.
