Xavier Kochhar is an American business executive, media strategist, and entrepreneur.[1][2] He is the founder of the Video Genome Project, a video recommendation company that became known as “the Google of video”.[3][4][5]

Career

Xavier began his career as a data analyst working for Texas-based Electronic Data Systems. Xavier then spent time as an investment banker at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC).

After banking, Xavier became an agent at the William Morris Agency (WMA). In 2001, he was featured in Variety (magazine)|Varity's Digital Dozen.[6]

After WMA, Xavier founded XK Entertainment,[7] an advisory and IP firm that developed a mixed martial arts league before the launch of Ultimate Fighting Championship|UFC.[8]

Xavier was later recruited to be a strategy consultant at L.E.K. Consulting, working for head of media, Kevin Mayer.

In 2005, Mayer left L.E.K. to rejoin The Walt Disney Company as head of corporate strategy, business development, and technology. Xavier left L.E.K to work at Disney shortly thereafter.[9]

In 2008, Xavier left Disney to work with Michael Kassan as Managing Partner of MediaLink|Medialink.[10]

After his tenure at MediaLink, Xavier founded Structured Data Intelligence,[11] a data structuring and analytics company that applied its technology to video content through The Video Genome Project (The VGP)[12] to create a better way to surface video content to users.[13]

The VGP was acquired by Hulu in 2016 amidst a bidding war.[14] [15]

In 2016 and 2017, Xavier worked at Hulu to help integrated The Video Genome Project into Hulu's content recommendation system.[16]

After Hulu,[17] Xavier began working for DirecTV Now[18] where he advised on video personalization and metadata structuring. At the end of 2018, Xavier joined AT&T’s recently acquired Time Warner,[19] renamed WarnerMedia, as the chief strategy and business development officer.
