William Sekabembe is a Ugandan Banking Executive with banking practice spanning over twenty one (21) years. He is the Executive director & Chief commercial officer (2017 to present) at DFCU Bank Uganda, a universal commercial bank with an asset size of $1billion.[1]

Background and Education

Sekabembe was born in March 1975 and grew up in Kampala, the Capital City of the republic of Uganda. He attended King’s College Budo, for both his O’ and A’-Level education. In 1995, he enrolled for a Bachelor’s degree in Economics and Statistics at Makerere University Kampala, a Ugandan oldest Public University graduating in 1998. He graduated from the same University with a Masters of Arts degree in Economic Policy and Planning - 2004.

For his professional development he enrolled for the CEO Apprenticeship Program and the Effective Director (TED) Program both delivered by Strathmore Business School – Nairobi Kenya in 2014 and 2015 respectively.

In 2018, he enrolled for an Masters of Business Administration (EMBA) at International Institute for Management Development Switzerland graduating in June 2020.

Career

Sekabembe started out his banking career at Standard Chartered Bank Uganda as a systems administrator/Banking Officer in 1999 and then moved to List of banks in Uganda (now ABSA Bank Uganda) in 2001 where he served in different positions and capacities ranging from performance analysis, branch management, products and segments management, and managing distribution channels until October 2010.

In November 2010, he moved to Stanbic Bank Uganda as Head of products (Assets & Liabilities) for personal and business banking, a position he held until April 2012.

In May 2012, he joined DFCU Bank Uganda as Head of Consumer Banking, a position he held until April 2015. He also served as Head of Corporate Banking at the same bank from May 2015 to December 2016[2].

After Juma Kisaame resignation from the Managing Director position, in January 2017 Sekabembe was appointed Executive Director & Chief commercial officer of DFCU Bank Uganda a role he still holds to-date[3][4]

Other Responsibilities

Sekabembe is a Non-executive director at the Uganda Warehouse Receipt System Authority Board representing the Uganda Bankers Association since 2016[5]

He is a Non-executive director at Agribusiness Development Centre (ADC) - a partnership between Robo Foundation-Netherlands and DFCU Bank Uganda providing technical support to farmer-based organizations and SMEs within the agriculture value chain from 2017 to Present.

He is also a member of the League of East African Directors (LEAD) and the Uganda Bankers Association (UBA)
