William Kass (born April 21, 1993, in Tartu, Estonia) is an Estonian action sports athlete, video creator, and visual content specialist best known for his Freestyle BMX background and being the first person in the world to land a backflip on a cargo bike.[1]
Early Life and Background
William Kass began riding BMX at the age of 13 in 2006. Before discovering BMX, he practiced skateboarding, rollerblading, and martial arts from a young age, building a foundation in movement and discipline that would later contribute to his success in action sports.
Early Career and BMX Coaching
In 2014, William Kass co-founded Estonia's first BMX Freestyle school, BMX Akadeemia,[2] located at Tartu Skatehall — the local indoor skatepark where he also worked as a youth worker and event organizer, and eventually became the manager of the skatepark. Kass also worked during the summers at Tähtvere Skatepark, which led to the construction of a new skatepark in Tartu. In 2017, he organized the park's opening festival, Duke of Tartu,[3] an extreme sports event that included BMX, skateboarding, and freestyle scootering.
YouTube and BMX Content Creation
In 2018, Kass transitioned his passion for coaching into digital content by launching a YouTube channel focused on BMX tutorials in Estonian.[4] His channel grew to include BMX entertainment videos, vlogs, and educational content. He also performed BMX demonstrations[5] and workshops[6] all around Estonia.[7]
Event Organizing and Marketing
In 2019, Kass joined the Simple Session organizing team as the Public Relations Manager.[8] Later that year, he organized Kopli Session 2020,[9][10] an unofficial national BMX gathering and competition.
Career Shift and Cargobike Stunt
After a knee injury in 2021 and a subsequent surgery, Kass retired from BMX. In 2022, he landed the world's first backflip on a cargo bike, an achievement that attracted international attention. The stunt reignited his passion for riding, and he transitioned to Slopestyle Mountain Biking, where he now trains and competes.

His content and interviews have also appeared in the Estonian Vegan Podcast[22] and various local video productions.[23] Kass has been invited to speak at vegan festivals due to his long-term lifestyle choices and athletic achievements.[24]
Advocacy and Lifestyle
Kass has followed a sober and vegetarian lifestyle since 2009 and has been vegan since 2010.[25] He is also known for his straight edge values, which influence his public image and personal mission.
He was featured as one of the male athletes in the Estonian plant-based campaign Tugev Taimsel Kütusel[26] and has been the cover story of one issue of Ajakiri Vegan. Kass has also given talks at public events such as the Taimetoidupäev 2019[27] and Taimetoidumess.
In 2019, he appeared on the Sportland Podcast to discuss his vegan and straight edge lifestyle and his role as a coach.[28] That same year, Delfi published a personal profile video[29] highlighting his commitment to sobriety—reportedly the first time the term "straight edge" appeared in Estonian media. Kass later spoke on Eeva Esse's television show about his experiences with depression and how discovering the straight edge philosophy changed his life.[30]
Digital Marketing and Content Creation
In 2020, Kass took on the role of digital marketer at Noorteagentuur (now part of Haridus- ja Noorteamet), managing online communications for the Erasmus+ and European Solidarity Corps programmes. In 2022, he became a full-time videographer and editor at Tallinn University of Technology. He later established his own media production company under the brand KassFilms.
