Wilhelmus Johannes Maria (William) Brand (Alphen aan den Rijn, 28 September 1963) is a Dutch architect and artist. He graduated from the Utrecht School of Arts in The Netherlands.[1]

Brand van Egmond

Brand founded together with Annet van Egmond the atelier “Brand van Egmond” in 1989, creating lighting. The first light sculpture was the “Chandelier” made out of rusted steel and broken glass.[2]

The Hollywood collection was created in 1996, and lit the Green Room of the Academy Awards.[3] His work is on display in locations around the world, as in Beirut [4]

In 2007 their collection “Flower Power” received a special recognition in the ‘International Design Yearbook’ by Patricia Urquiola.[5] [6]

William is commissioned to create lighting installations for both residential as well as hospitality interiors.[7]

In San Francisco Brand van Egmond were the first Dutch atelier to open their own boutique in 2019.[8]

Projects

For the lobby of hotel The Fontenay in Hamburg William was commissionend to create the light installation, with a heigth of 6 meters.[9] [10]

The Alden Biesen Castle in Belgium chose the 'Candles and Spirits' collection for the restoration of the 18th century 'Blaauwe Salon' ceremonial room[11][12]

The jeweller Chopard has selected Brand van Egmond to create the lighting for their boutiques.[13] [14]

Exhibitions

The work of William Brand has been exhibited in the museum Istanbul Modern, as part of the exhibition 'Day, Light, Night'.[15]

The work of William Brand has been shown at TEFAF since 2016.[16] [17]

In 2008 the collection ‘Nightwatch’ was chosen by the Dutch government to decorate the VIP pavilion at the World Expo 2008 in Zaragoza, Spain.[18] [19]
