William Breuleux Muchmore (July 7, 1920 in Cincinnati, Ohio; † May 11, 2017 in Rochester, New York) was an American Arachnologist.[1]

Life

Muchmore was the first child of Oliver Charles Muchmore and Ruby Breuleux. In 1942 he received a Bachelor of Arts from Oberlin College. In 1943 he married Marjorie Murrin. He had two daughters in this marriage. From Feb 1943 to March 1946 he served in the Field Hospitals of the US Army in the South Pacific. In 1950, with the dissertation Differentiation of the trunk mesorderm in Amystoma maculatum he earned a Ph.D in Embryology from Washington University St. Louis. In 1950 he went to the University of Rochester where he served as a Docent until 1952 and from 1952 to 1958 served as an assistant professor, from 1958 to 70 as an adjunct professor and from 1970 to 1988 as a tenured professor in biology. He was named professor emeritus in 1985. From 1958 to 1969, as well as from 1973 to 76, Muchmore received stipends from the National Science Foundation, as well as a Fulbright stipend from 1963 to 64 to study at the University of Hull in England. From 1979 to 81 he also received a research stipend from the Office of Naval Research. Muchmore was a member of the American Arachnological Society, the British Arachnological Society and the International Society of Arachnology. He dedicated himself mainly to the Taxonomy and Biogeography of Pseudoscorpions.[2]
