Wilfried Buchholz (1948~, Berlin) is a renowned German mathematician respected for the Buchholz's ordinal: ψ0(Ωω), a large countable ordinal, the Buchholz hydra, a single-player mathematical game based on the idea of chopping pieces off a tree, among other works. In 1974 he received his PhD, then in six years he became a professor at the Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich, where he currently lives.
