Wendy S. Walter is a prose writer, lyricist, poet, and former professor of literary studies at New York City’s New School with the position of chair of Writing and Co-Chair of Literary Studies who holds a Ph.D. in Literature from Cornell University. She holds the position of Director of the Nonfiction Concentration and Associate Professor of Writing and nonfiction in the School of the Arts at Columbia University. She is known for writing multiple books like “Troy, Michigan (Futurepoem, 2013)”, Multiply/Divide: On the American Real and Surreal (Sarabande Books, 2015), and “Longer I Wait, More You Love Me (Palm Press, 2009)”. She is also known for publishing different poems and prose pieces like Seneca Review, Iowa Review, Callaloo, Harper’s Magazine, and Seattle Review. She is also known for writing music lyrics that have been performed by Weil Recital Hall, Fulcrum Point Ensemble, and the Pittsburgh Symphony. On March 10, 2022, she curated an exhibition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art titled: Fictions of Emancipation: Carpeaux Recast. This exhibition was displayed till March 5, 2023.
Awards
She is a winner of multiple awards. These are Fellowships at Yaddo, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, McDowell, and Cave Canem. She is also a Creative Capital Awardee in literary nonfiction.
