Warwick Moto is an electric motorsport team headquartered in Coventry, United Kingdom. It is a part of the Warwick Manufacturing Group in the University of Warwick. Started in 2019 by undergraduate students, it has remained fully student-run since. Two electric motorcycles have been designed and manufactured: the Aurora and the Frontier.

History

Warwick Moto was founded in 2019 with the goal of building electric motorcycles. Initially, their primary focus was on participating in the Isle of Man TT Zero competition. With support from the Warwick Manufacturing Group the team built their prototype, the Aurora, based on the Honda CBR1000.[1]

In 2020 the Norton Motorcycle Company became a sponsor to the team, donating a chassis. This was used to build the second iteration, the Frontier, and launched in July 2021.

Following the indefinite suspension of the Isle of Man TT Zero[2], Warwick Moto became a founding member of the Electric Road Racing Association[3].

Innovation and Technology

The Frontier was the first motorcycle worldwide to utilise an immersion-cooled battery. This technology submerges the cells within a pack in dielectric fluid, greatly enhancing the cooling ability and, thus, the performance of the Frontier. This technology was previously used in data centres and is gradually entering the electric vehicle market.[4]
