Warren Whyte (born 1972) is a British based architect and politician. Originally from Canada, he has lived in England since 1979.
Career
Warren undertook his secondary schooling at Stantonbury Campus in Milton Keynes, before studying architecture at Bartlett School of Architecture at University College London.[1]
He worked for a number of architects including Bryan Avery, Justin Bere and EPR Architects before becoming a client side architect for Mercedes-Benz. He established his own practice WhyteConsult in 2006, and became a consulting Project Director for Avery Associates.[2]
Warren is an elected council member of the Royal Institute of British Architects, most recently in 2022.[3]
Politics
Warren was first elected as a town councillor in Buckingham in 2007, then as a county councillor in 2013 to Buckinghamshire County Council. In 2015 he left the town council and was elected to Aylesbury Vale District Council. In 2020 the two councils merged as part of the county-wide unification into Buckinghamshire Council, where he was successfully elected to in 2021. He has served on the cabinet of both the county council[4] and unitary council, and was deputy mayor of Buckingham.
He helped establish the Buckinghamshire Design Awards in 2020 to promote good design in the county.[5]
He established the Buckingham Area Rural Transport project which was launched in 2020.[6]
He has spoken about sustainable transport at the Conservative Party conference[7] and at transportation events, and founded Buckinghamshire and Milton Keynes EV Club.[8] His interest and promotion of Tesla electric cars gained interest on social media in 2018 and was subject to media debate by political opponents.[9]
