Warfe Tupas Engracia (born June 1, 1942) is a Filipino radiologist, sonologist, actor, singer, poet, and author based in Cebu City, Philippines. He is a Fellow of the Philippine College of Radiology and holds the rank of Knight Grand Cross of Rizal.
Early life and family
Engracia was born on June 1, 1942, in Initao, Misamis Oriental. He traces his family lineage to Rajah Tupas, the last Malay ruler of Cebu before Spanish colonization.
Education and medical training
Engracia studied at Xavier University and later at SWU-MHAM College of Medicine (Southwestern University) in Cebu City, where he completed his medical degree. He trained in diagnostic radiology at the University of Auckland (Waipapa Taumata Rau) in New Zealand and completed a fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Radiologists.He subsequently studied Advanced Diagnostic Ultrasonography at the Istituto Nazionale dei Tumori in Milan, Italy.
He holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Transformational Leadership and a Doctor of Humanities (Honoris Causa), both from Northwestern Christian University in the United States.
Medical career
Engracia operates Rajah Tupas Medical Services, a clinic at Elizabeth Mall on N. Bacalso Avenue, Cebu City, offering laboratory, ultrasound, X-ray, and EKG services. In September 2018, the clinic relocated from the second floor to the lower ground floor of Elizabeth Mall, with an upgraded laboratory. The same day, Engracia opened King Tupas Medical Services at Entrance 1 on the second floor of the Cebu South Bus Terminal, and a separate King Tupas Medical Services branch in Pinamungahan, Cebu.
He trained under Dr. Nestor R. Canoy, a Diplomate of the American Board of Radiology, after graduating from SWU-MHAM College of Medicine. He served as Chairman of the Radiology Department at Southwestern University PHINMA and worked as Radiologist and Sonologist at Supercare Medical Services Inc.
He was conferred the degree of Doctor of Humanities, Honoris Causa, by Northwestern Christian University of Florida. During the Cebu City 81st Charter Day celebration, he received the city's Most Outstanding Individual Award.<
He served as Vice Chairman of the Board of Examiners of the Philippine Board of Radiology.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, he gave public lectures on protective measures against the virus.
Performing arts
Stage and music
In 2007, Engracia performed at the spouses' night held during the 12th ASEAN Summit in Cebu, singing the Indonesian song "Aku Jatuh Cinta" in Bahasa and performing a duet from the musical Inday, Paabota Ko sa Langit. Then-President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo expressed appreciation for his performance.
In 2013, he performed at the Cebu Zonta Club's 45th anniversary fundraiser at Radisson Blu Hotel, taking the role of Zeus in a Cole Porter-themed revue titled Legends of Men.
He served as president of the Cebu Malay Society of Composers, Artists and Producers (CEMSCAP) and performed at the group's Handumanan concert at SM City Cebu, singing "Kamingaw sa Payag."
In April 2021, he portrayed Rajah Humabon in the reenactment of the 500th anniversary of the arrival of Christianity in the Philippines in Cebu City.
Film
Engracia appeared in Visayan-language films during the 1960s, including Olivia, ang Awit ug ang Pintor, Pailub Lang, and Matud Nila. He appeared as Tibog in Panaghoy sa Subâ: The Call of the River.
Music
Engracia performed with artists including Jose Mari Chan at live concerts. He composed an original song titled The Great Malayan Race.
Poetry
In September 2019, his Cebuano-language poem Tupas Pindatos: Unang Adlaw sa Septiyembre was published in the Balak sa Semana column of Bisaya magazine, published by Manila Bulletin. He has also written poetry in the ancient Kudlit-Kabadlit script, a pre-colonial writing system of the Visayas.

In September 2017, Engracia represented Cebu at the fourth International Conference of the International Council for Historical and Cultural Cooperation – Southeast Asia in Manila, themed "The Malay World: Connecting the Past to the Present," where he spoke on Rajah Tupas and Malay heritage.
Awards and recognition
At the 23rd Knights of Rizal International Assembly at the Centennial Pavilion of the Manila Hotel, Engracia received the Knight Grand Cross of Rizal (KGCR), the highest degree the organization confers. The Knights of Rizal is a civic organization established to honor the ideals of national hero José Rizal, with its awards ranked seventh in the Order of Wear under Republic Act 646.

Engracia is married to Elaine Velarde Pedrosa-Engracia. His daughter Athena Ever Engracia has performed at CEMSCAP productions in Cebu, including the Handumanan concert and the Hiyas Bisaya cultural show in 2008.
