Walt Lontkowski (better known by the stage name Walt Hamburger) is a musician, singer, and song writer.

Biography

Walt was born in Green Bay, WI. Throughout his childhood he lived in Lafayette, IN, Milwaukee, WI, Potsdam, NY, and Neenah, WI. He started playing trombone in school at the age of 9 while at St. Mary's Catholic School. He attended Neenah High School, graduating in 1999. While in high school, Walt played on the varsity baseball team.

In school, Walt was involved in school concert and jazz bands. During his senior year of high school, he played trombone in the Neenah High School show choir band (1998-1999). Following high school, Walt attended UW-Whitewater to pursue performance jazz trombone.[1] Walt's interest in punk music started at a young age. He was influenced by numerous artists: Nirvana, Green Day, NoFx, The Offspring, Ramones, The Clash, Lagwagon, Bad Religion, Descendents.

Walt is an animal lover. In addition to caring for his own pets, Walt volunteers his time at a local cat rescue.[2] He also collects donation for the cat rescue at each of his shows. [3]

Walt has been described as an entertainer. He brings the energy and humor associated with years in the punk rock scene to his acoustic performances. Walt's songs range from heart-felt ballads to rock 'n roll and everything in between. He constantly engages with the crowd, especially during his set. His sets consist of mostly self-written music. In addition to guitar and vocals, he is an extremely talented whistler: "Walt whistles like he’s scoring a Tarantino film!"[4]

Following an extensive amount of exposure at Appleton's Mile of Music festival and other local music festivals in 2014, Walt's popularity increased significantly. [5][6] Walt performed on the local bus throughout the Mile of Music event. This event was included in a YouTube video created by Lawrence University about Appleton, WI. [7] A local radio show host was quoted saying: "It was just as entertaining time as I have had in Appleton at any point in my life." [8] He participated in performances at Mile of Music 2014 and 2015 with local and international stars such as Joey Cape (Lagwagon), Chris Cresswell (The Flatliners), Kristopher Roe (The Ataris), Richie Ramone (Ramones), and Cory Chisel.

In 2014, Walt opened for Lagwagon frontman Joey Cape at a gig in Green Bay, WI.[9] This meeting led to Walt's eventual signing with One Week Records[10] and Barely Standing Records (2015). Walt's One Week Record was recorded in January 2014.[11] Following recording, Walt and other musicians from the One Week Records label toured throughout Canada and the USA (fall 2015).[12] The European portion of the tour will take place in spring 2016.[13]
