Meregngnage Wageesha Hansini Salgado (born in 24 March 2002) (Sinhala: මෙරෙඤ්ඤගේ වගීෂා හංසිනී සල්ගාදු) popularly known as Wageesha Salgado, is a Sri Lankan actress, singer, dancer, TV presenter, song writer and also a psychologist and a counsellor in training. She showcase her acting talents in both Sri Lankan cinema and television hand in hand. She began her career in the entertainment industry as a child artist when she was 9 years old.[1]
Personal life
Wageesha Salgado was born on 24 March 2002 in Colombo, Sri Lanka. She is the younger daughter of the family with one elder sibling: Sarani Salgado. Her father, Waruna Salgado is well known businessman in the field and a talented singer who owned a band and her mother, Krishanthi De Silva was in the acting and modeling field in her early age and now a housewife. Wageesha started her education from Succex Collage till grade 3 and then moved to Sujatha Vidyalaya,Nugegoda from grade 4 till G.C.E O/L . She did her Advanced level in Cambridge sector and for that she attained to Royal Institute International School, Havelock.
Ever since she was little Wageesha[2]showcased many talents in the school environment. She was the main Announcer for school events in her primary school .She was a leader in her school dancing team , She was the eastern band leader in Sujatha Vidyalaya for 5 consecutive years. She was also the president of the School first Sinhala drama club in Sujatha vidyalaya. She was also a trained Singer from small days .Not only for art related talents, she was also very keen and known for athletics through out her school times. She was talented in her Studies as well.
Currently she is pursuing her higher education in the fields of criminal law and [psychology and also she is a counsellor in training. She also doing drama and music therapy training.
Career
Wageesha started her acting career in small days and later on she participated to state children drama festival in many occasions and won awards and certificates. Before her acting career she was trained to be a singer but her pathway took turns when she was casted for a commercial when she was small and through her school she did many stage dramas and she won an award for best young actress in those competitions. She slowly started to step into the industry as a young child artist from stage dramas and commercials. Her first Teledrama was Eliya Kanda (ITN) where she potrayed the character of the second daughter in the family. Her first film was Thaala where she acted with many veteran actors. By this time she has acted in 5 films,10 teledramas, 30 commercials and 4 music videos. She was also nominated as a young upcoming child actress for her film 5 Samath at the Presidential awards 2018 and also she was nominated as a popular actress for Sumathi awards and Raigam awards 5 times.
She started doing tv presenting when she was at age of 11 in ITN and Sirasa tv and she still do continue it very successfully. She is also a well trained traditional and western dancer.
Wageesha also pursue her music career in the terms of singer and a song writer. she has done few songs and lyrics in the past few years. She will continue to work in her music journey starting in 2023 as a main career alongside with her acting career.
