Vyom Yadav is a young Indian actor. Vyom Yadav made his Bollywood debut with the Rajkummar Rao starrer film Badhaai Do in 2022. He appeared in Netflix’s crime drama series Delhi Crime Season 2 in 2022. In 2023, he played a lead role in SonyLIV's political thriller series Garmi as Arvind Shukla.[1][2][3]

Early life and education

Vyom was born in Varanasi, raised in Delhi[4] and completed his schooling at a private school in Delhi. Vyom Yadav had aspirations of becoming a football player during his school days[3]. However, he later pursued engineering at Netaji Subash Technological University, Delhi [1].

Vyom's parents initially desired a certain level of certainty in his career. They prioritized security and stability for their child's future. Despite their concerns about the conditions for football players in India, Vyom expressed his passion for the sport. This led to disagreements with his father, resulting in a "cold war" between them. Eventually, Vyom found solace in theater, which served as a venting space for him[3].

During his college years, he found himself torn between focusing on placements and pursuing acting[3]. While he believed he could secure a placement without exerting much effort, he eventually realized that he had no intentions of staying in the engineering field for long[3].

Yadav developed a passion for acting, which led him to become actively involved in his college's theatre society, performing in various venues[1].

Career

After relocating to Mumbai, Vyom Yadav began his professional acting career by giving auditions for different projects. He initially appeared in the YouTube series Delhi Gamer vs. Kanpur Gamer. He later landed a minor but significant role in Delhi Crime Season 2. Yadav's breakthrough came with the film Badhaai Do, where he starred alongside Rajkumar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar. His performance in the film received positive reviews from the audience.[1]

In the highly acclaimed online series Garmi, directed by Tigmanshu Dhulia, Vyom Yadav plays the lead role of Arvind Shukla, a UPSC aspirant who becomes entangled in politics. The series has garnered widespread praise and has been compared to the critically acclaimed film Haasil, starring Irrfan Khan and Jimmy Sheirgill.[1]

During an interview with OTTplay, Vyom Yadav shared his experience of working with Tigmanshu Dhulia and the impact of Garmi on his career. He described Dhulia as a "walking talking institution when it comes to cinema" and mentioned the valuable knowledge and experience he gained from working with him. Yadav also discussed the differences between Haasil and Garmi, stating that the focus and format of the two projects are distinct.[2]

Regarding the reception of Garmi, Yadav acknowledged that while the series received mixed reviews, the overall response has been positive. He highlighted the show's significant viewership and the appreciation he received from both critics and audiences. Yadav recognized that certain viewers from metropolitan areas might find it challenging to relate to the show's depiction of life in smaller towns. However, he emphasized the strong connection the series has forged with audiences from the northern belt of India, who resonate with its portrayal of real-life experiences.[2]

Yadav also discussed his early involvement in street theatre and the contrasting experience of acting in front of a camera for a series. He described the energy and thrill of performing in street plays, connecting with a live audience and gauging their reactions. In contrast, shooting for a series involves a more controlled environment, with scenes often requiring multiple takes until the director is satisfied. Nonetheless, Yadav acknowledged that both forms of acting demand the ability to bring characters to life, connect with viewers, and effectively convey emotions.[2]

Yadav expressed gratitude for the rise of OTT platforms and their impact on the opportunities available to young and aspiring actors. With the emergence of OTT platforms, actors like Vyom Yadav have gained more exposure and recognition. He acknowledged that OTT platforms have provided a platform for low-budget films and web series to make a significant impact on audiences. He also emphasized that these platforms have enabled talented grassroots-level actors to be discovered and appreciated for their skills, without solely relying on big-budget productions. Vyom Yadav considers himself fortunate to have been part of this era and hopes that the trend continues to flourish for years to come.[2]

As for the future, Vyom Yadav expressed excitement about the upcoming second season of Garmi. While an exact release date has not been announced, he mentioned that they are working diligently to make it even better than the first season. He revealed that they have received numerous inquiries from fans eagerly awaiting the next installment of the series. Additionally, Yadav mentioned that he has been approached by directors and producers with exciting scripts for upcoming projects. While being selective about the roles and stories he chooses, he expressed confidence in being part of significant projects in the near future.
