Vladimir Assenov Todorov (Bulgarian language: Владимир Асенов Тодоров, born May 9, 1964) is a Bulgarian animator, character designer, illustrator and author.

Life and Career

Todorov was born on May 9, 1964 in Sofia, Bulgaria, and graduated from the National School of Fine Arts “Ilia Petrov”..[1] (:bg:Национално_училище_за_изящни_изкуства_„Илия_Петров“|Национално училище за изящни изкуства „Илия Петров“).

He obtained an associate degree in animation from the Krastyo Sarafov National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts . (Национална академия за театрално и филмово изкуство „Кръстьо Сарафов“, usually abbreviated as НАТФИЗ, NATFA) and began working as an assistant animator in 1989 at Studio Boyana (now Nu Boyana Film Studios).

In 1990 he moved to the U.K. to join Amblimation (Universal Studios) and then worked Warner Brothers, and Uli Meyer Animation.

In 1999 Vladimir moved to Los Angeles, California to join Sony Pictures Imageworks as an animator on Stuart Little (film) and also worked on The ChubbChubbs!, which won an Academy Award for Best Short Animated Film in 2003. While at Imageworks, he also became a character designer on The Polar Express[2] and as a storyboard artist on Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (film)|Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.

Awards

Vladimir's animated short Flutter[31] (2017) has won multiple awards for best animation and best animated short at different film festivals[32]; including Philip K. Dick European Sci-Fi Film Festival's "Best New Media/Animation"[33], Ouchy Film Awards' "Best Animation"[34] and Raindance Film Festival's "Best Animation Short"[35]. Flutter also qualified for the 2018 Oscar's Animated Short submission[36]
