Vithal Somanna Halagekar is an Bharatiya Janta Party politician from Khanapur, Karnataka. He is also an MLA from Khanapur Assembly constituency.[4] He is a state-level politician who represents Khanapur constituency in Karnataka Vidahna soudha.
Personal life
Vithal Somanna Halagekar was born on 07 January 1963. He is the son of Smt. Mallava. S. Halagekar and Shri Somanna. A. Halagekar from Topinkatti. He served as a teacher in Garlgunji village for 30 years. He is the founder and President of Shri. Mahalakshmi Group, Topinkatti, Tal-Khanapur. He is the founder and President of Shantiniketan Public School, Khanapur and the Chairperson of Laila sugar Factory and many more. He is a tireless worker and an inspiring leader.
Political career
He started his political career as the member of Gram Panchayat of Topinkatti village from 1993-1999 (five years). He unsuccessfully contested in Karnataka constituency assembly as a independent candidate for the first time in Khanapur (Vidhana Sabha constituency) in the year 2013. In 2018 he claimed the BJP ticket and again contested election for the second time representing BJP from the Khanapur constituency, But unsuccessfully he was defeated by Anjali Nimbalkar of Indian National Congress. Anjali got a total of 36,649 votes while he was at second with 31,516 votes.
In 2023, he got elected to the Karnataka state assembly from Khanapur Vidhana Sabha seat as an candidate of Bharatiya Janata Party by defeating Anjali Nimbalkar of INC. He secured 91834 votes which is 57.04% of the total votes in Khanapur (Vidhana Sabha constituency) whereas Anjali Nimbalkar secured 37205 votes which is 23.11% of the total votes, he won the election with a huge lead of 54629 votes.
