Vision Thing is an English folk rock band from Wigan and St. Helens, Lancashire, formed in 1995. The original members of the band from the start to the present day are the Cunliffe brothers who are currently produced and recorded by John Kettle of The Tansads & Merry Hell.

History

Guitarist and Vocalist Peter Cunliffe and his younger brother Paul Cunliffe grew up in Golborne an old Mining Town in Lancashire formed Vision Thing as a side project to different bands they were in growing up.

In 2009 Violinist David Windsor joined the band and in 2016 Cherlene Walmsley joined on joint lead vocals.

The band went on to appear on TV & Radio programs such as Arts Alive on Made in Liverpool and The Liverpool Sound on Bay TV Liverpool as well as many appearances at The Cavern Club and the Zanzibar Club in Liverpool.

Vision Thing started out as a 3 piece and recorded their first album "Waters Edge" at Frog Studios in Warrington. In 2008 Peter and Paul recorded the song "Barcode" which gained them listeners around the world as the song was picked up by Radio Paradise.

In 2017 and 2018 the band performed at the Coppull Folk Festival and in 2016 and 2018 were 2nd Headline at Levellers Folk Festival as well as Wigan Live Festival & Folk on the Dock Festival in Liverpool.

During 2018 the band went into the studio to record their latest album When We Were Astronauts and Other Stories was recorded and engineered by well-known Merry Hell musician John Kettle. The album was released on 3rd September 2018 to much critical acclaim.[1][2]

2019 Vision Thing won Artist of the year - Rising Stars at Folking Magazine.

2021 Vision Thing Recorded their new album Morning`s Coming released on March 15 2021 and produced by John Kettle of Merry Hell/The Tansads fame. In reviews of the new album, Folking Magazine's Mike Davies[3] commented "Christine Walmsley effortlessly securing her place among the great and most emotionally expressive British folk rock voices" and that the song Another Life was "an undisputed contender for song of the year".
