Villa Flori
Villa Flori is an historic villa facing Lake Como, situated on the street that leads from Como to Cernobbio.
History
The Villa dates back to 1859 when the marquis Giorgio Giuseppe Raimondi Mantica Odescalchi, owner of Villa Olmo since 1824, decided to renew an old building to give it as wedding gift[1] to her daughter Giuseppina Raimondi who was marrying Giuseppe Garibaldi.
The marriage was celebrated on January 24, 1860, in Raimondi's villa in Fino Mornasco. The wedding was broken the same day.[2]
In 1865, the marquis decided to sell the villa to the Flori family.
Since 1958 the villa has become[3] an hotel and it has been renewed completely in 2011.
The hotel still today welcomes his guests in the room entitled to Giuseppe Garibaldi, which maintains furnishings of the time and the bed where the general slept. The restaurant retains the name "Raimondi" in honor of the marquise[4].
Curiosities
The Villa is known for having slept Giuseppe Garibaldi after his wedding with Giuseppina Raimondi was broken. Raimondi subsequently refused to dissolve the marriage bond with Giuseppe Garibaldi up until V. Polli, Giuseppe Garibaldi, Giuseppina Raimondi, Luigi Caroli. Un amore controverso, Bergamo, 2001.[5]
