Memphis, Tennessee was home to the private, for-profit institution that was originally known as Crichton College and is now known as Victory University. Significant Education, situated in California, was the proprietor until it went out of business in May of 2014. Courses may be taken on site or via distance learning at Victory University, which was recognised as meeting the standards of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS).

In 1944, what is now known as Victory University was first established as the Mid-South Bible Center. Shortly after that, the organisation changed its name to the Mid-South Bible Institute and began offering a Basic Bible Course that lasted for one year in addition to a non-credit Adult Education Program. 1958 saw the beginning of a Bible college curriculum that lasted for four years, and the following year, in 1960, the school became known as Mid-South Bible College. 1971 was the year that the Association of Biblical Higher Education bestowed its accreditation to the educational establishment. The school continued to expand, and in 1982 it launched a programme to "train Christian men and women to teach in schools." This programme was part of the Teacher Education department. The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools bestowed its accreditation onto the educational establishment in 1986, the same year that it began offering degrees in the fields of teaching, music, social and natural sciences.

Crichton College was given its current name in 1987 in order to pay tribute to James B. Crichton, who had served as president of the college for many years until passing away in 1984. The institution moved twice: the first time was in 1989, when it moved to a campus that it shared with a local megachurch called Central Church, and the second time was in March 2002, when it moved to its current home on Highland Avenue.

In 2009, Dr. John M. Borek, Jr. was selected to fill the role of president, and Significant Federation, located in California, purchased the financially struggling institution, transforming it into a corporation that operates for profit. After one year, the school made the decision to transform itself into Victory University. Mike Huckabee, a former governor of Arkansas, was appointed chancellor of the university and got involved in the institution's fundraising efforts. Despite the fact that he did not relocate to Memphis, Huckabee was granted the title of chancellor. As the university's financial problems persisted, the administration made a sudden announcement in March 2014 that the spring semester of 2014 would be the institution's last semester and that it would be shutting down after that.
