Vicky Valerieva Politova is a Bulgarian business woman and media Management.

Career

Vicky Politova has worked and led the two major TV broadcasting groups in Bulgaria, under foreign ownership. She joined bTV (Bulgaria) from Leo Burnett Worldwide, where she served as a CEO and Member of the Board from 1996 to 2000 in the local office of the American аdvertising аgency..[1].

bTV

Vicky Politova was part of the first management team that created and launched the First Private National Free to Air (FTA) channel in Bulgaria, bTV. bTV was a start-up for Rupert Murdoch’s News Corporation in Bulgaria, which grew to become the leading TV station within 12 months of its launch. Vicky Politova joined the first management team as a General Sales Manager and in 2005 she became the General Manager[2] of bTV. After the sale of bTV to Central European Media Enterprises (CME) and during the integration and merger with the remaining CME local assets in Bulgaria, Vicky Politova served as the Chief Operating Officer of the group[3][4]. As of 2011 she became the CEO and Chairwoman of bTV Media Group[5][6]. At that time the media group consists of 1 FTA channel (bTV), 5 DTH tv and Cable channels (bTV, bTV Comedy, bTV Cinema, bTV Lady, bTV Action и RING.BG), 5 Radio Channels (N-JOY, Z-Rock (Bulgaria), Jazz FM (Bulgaria), Classic FM (Bulgaria), bTV Radio), a digital portfolio, and an OTT SVOD service - Voyo.

During her 14 yrs at bTV and under Vicky Politova’s leadership bTV produced its highest-rated TV series and entertainments productions, with some of the TV shows and series being still in renewed production and running on the main channel to date (Comedians - 18 seasons, +250 eps; Citizens in Excess - 13 seasons, 170eps). Politova initiated the start of the first Reality television format for bTV, Survivor BG, shot in the Dominican Republic, and which became the highest-rated show in Bulgaria and aired for a total of 255 hrs over a few years.[7] The list of emblematic top-rated entertainment shows for the Bulgarian market is long: Music Idol (2007), Magnificent Six - an original fundraising music show (2008), Fort Boyard (game show)Fort Boyard“ (2008 г.), America's Psychic Challenge[8], Dancing with the Stars Bulgaria (2008), Balgariya tarsi talant (2010)[9], The Voice of Bulgaria (2011), Lord of the Chefs, Star Safari (2013) and many others, which over the years have led the charts of the most-watched TV programs[10][11][12]

In 2010 Politova started the first original Bulgarian series of the TV group Glass Home, which aired 5 seasons with exceptional success. Another 6 original Bulgarian, top-rated series productions followed: Sofia Residents in Excess, Seven Hours Difference, House Arrest, „Where is Maggie“, „Revolution Z“, „The Family“, which trended as the rebirth of Bulgarian TV series” and which media experts coined as being the “triumph of Bulgarian series”.[13]

On 18 February 2010 News Corporation announced the sale of bTV to Central European Media Enterprises (CME) with the transaction valued at 400 million USD. Vicky Politova remained the leader of the Bulgarian operation for another 4 yrs under CME ownership.

During Politova’s tenure, the management of the media group was closely connected to various social causes and social issues, with many campaigns run by the media aiming to raise funds and vast social awareness. Such were the campaigns “The Magnificent Six”, “Your Help”[14], Hope for Haiti” and many others. In 2011, under Vicky Politova’s leadership, bTV Media Group started an annual social initiative “Let’s clean Bulgaria for a Day”, which is part of the global cleaning initiative – Let's Do It World and still running to this day. In 2012 under Vicky Politova’s leadership bTV was ranked as the No.1 Bulgarian brand under the Superbrands ranking and in the same year bTV was ranked for the third time as the most recognized Media brand in the category „Media“ – TV and Radio.[15]

Under Vicky Politova’s leadership, bTV was a preferred source for information in Bulgaria, an undisputed audience leader, and bTV News and information programs consistently lead the rating charts [16].

She left BTV in January 2014[17].

NOVA

From 2014 -2019 Vicky Politova joins the MTG owned Nova Broadcasting Group, serving as a Chief Operational Officer and Vice Chairman to the Board[18]. At the time the media group consist of 1 FTA Chanel (Nova), 4 DTH, and Cable channels (Nova Sport, Kino Nova, Diema, and Diema Family) and runs the biggest local digital portfolio (Net Info). Under Politova’s tenure in the media group, the main channel TV NOVA generates a considerable boost in terms of viewership and revenue. In 2015 Nova Broadcasting Group registers record revenues on the Bulgarian media market. According to the owner MTG, the revenue growth is on average 17%. In the same year, according to the official reports published in the Bulgarian Trade Register, for the first time Nova Broadcasting Group takes the TV revenue lead in Bulgaria[19]. During Politova’s tenure, the media group moves into premium pay with the launch of three paid sports channels– Diema Sport, Diema Sport 2, and TRACE SPORT STARS, part of the sport package Diema Extra[20]. In 2015, a radio channel NOVA NEWS is launched into the media portfolio. Under Politova’s leadership, Nova commits support for the Bulgarian Cinema industry and begins NOVA’s investment era in Bulgarian movies and series production. In early 2016 NOVA launches its first Bulgarian medical drama series „ Stolen Life“. The successful series is currently in its 8 seasons. Other original local productions quickly follow: „ We, ours and yours“, „ End of City Police“, „ The Devil’s Throat“, „ Mr. X and the Sea“.

Vicky Politova leads the group into cinema distribution[21]. The distribution activity is under the label „Lenta“ and as of 2016 via this project, Nova Broadcasting Group begins its support for local movie production with the launch of– „Monkey“, „Voevoda“, „Benzin“, „Omnipresent“, „Bubblegum“, „Attraction“.

In February 2018 a subscription HD streaming service is launched PLAY DIEMA XTRA, allowing full live access to the premium sport channels Diema Sport and Diema Sport 2 from the Diema Extra package.
