Vernon François is a hairdresser (born 7th November, 1985) from Huddersfield, Yorkshire, England, UK.[1] He is known for his work in the natural hair movement,[2][3] particularly with curly hair[4] and afro textured hair.[5][6] He is the founder of the haircare line the Vernon Francois Collection, which was created in 2016.[7]

Early history

Francois was raised in Huddersfield, England in a Rastafarian household.[8] He learned to braid, loc and twist hair on a mop from the age of eight and taught himself how to blow dry hair using a fork.[9] By 14, he was employed in a salon on Oxford Street in London.[10] In 2016, he moved to Los Angeles.

Career

Named a top stylist in 2018[11] and 2019[12] by The Hollywood Reporter, François is known for styling the hair of Lupita Nyong’o,[13][14] Serena Williams,[15][16] Iman,[17] Solange Knowles,[18] Amandla Stenberg,[19] Denée Benton,[20] Willow Smith,[21] Danai Gurira[22] and Ava DuVernay.[23]

Since starting his career, he has been noted for his "creative, inclusive, and resourceful approach,"[24] and has had his work featured in Vogue,[25] InStyle,[26] Stylist,[27] The Hollywood Reporter[28] and Essence.[29] He has also appeared as a guest on The Wendy Williams Show,[30] Good Morning America[31][32] and BBC Radio 1Xtra.[33]

In 2017 he took part in the inaugural World Afro Day which included setting a world record for the world’s largest hair education lesson.[34]
