Ved Prakash Upadhyay is an Indian Sanskrit scholar, author, lecturer, professor, educationist and Hindu scripture scholar. He is the author of many books on Sanskrit literature and Hinduism. In 2017, he received the Sanskrit Sahitya Alangkar Award from the Haryana Sanskrit Academy.[3] In 2017, he received the Sahitya Ratna Padak from the Punjabi Language Department[4] and in 2019 he received the President Award of India for his contribution to Sanskrit language.[5][6][7]
Early life
Ved Prakash Upadhyay was born on 2 February 1947 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. His father was Sri Ramjivan/Ramsjivan Sumitradevi Upadhyay and mother Pratimadevi Tripathi.[8]
Education
Upadhyay is a scholar of D.Phil in Sanskrit Vedas and D.Litt in Dharmashastra Hindu Law, Vedas, Philosophy, Theology, Literature, Tantra, Justice and Punishment etc. Master of Arts from Allahabad University in 1968, Doctorate in Philosophy from Allahabad University in 1970 and Master in 1975 from Guru Nanak Dev University, Bachelor of Laws from Allahabad University in 1978, Doctor of Letters from Allahabad University in 1981, Doctorate in Astrology from Astrology Research Project in 1998.
Career

He served for 40 years at Panjab University, Chandigarh and retired as Professor and Head of Sanskrit Department. He then taught Sanskrit medium for three years in the classes of Shastri, Acharya and Abhascharya at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri National Sanskrit University, New Delhi.
