Vantem is a small village of 593 hectares in Satari Tehsil in North Goa district, known and rated to have the best quality of life in India (based on the commission’s “12 Indicators”)[2] in the state of Goa, India.[3] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Vantem depends on VALPOI, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[4] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, Two tanks, Two tubewells, and Two handpumps. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - One river, Two canals and Two springs. Vantem is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Tap. Vantem's pin code is 403506[5], and village code is 00017100. The area of Vantem is segregated as 34.76 hectares irrigated area, 462.08 hectares unirrigated, the 39.21 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 56.58 hectare area not available for cultivation.

The village is connected with a single bus service. Vantem has One bank and Two credit societies for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with Two recreational centers.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics

Vantem is a census village in the district of North Goa, Goa. The village has a total population of 1678 and has total administration over 388 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Scheduled tribe counts for 1127 (67.16%) males constitute 564 (33.61%) of the population and females 563 (33.55%).

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of VALPOI and North Goa to sell banana and make their living.
