Vanessa Murrell Regalado (born 15 February 1995 in Cartagena, Murcia, Spain), known as Vanessa Murrell, was a former child show jumper. She is now a curator and writer.[1]. In 2017, she founded DATEAGLE ART, an online platform demystifying the behind-the-scenes studios of today's London-based artists[2].

Riding Career

During her 5 years as a child show jumper (9 to 14 years old), she won 29 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 14 bronze medals in Spain and Italy, jumping up to 1,30 meters. In 2005, she won the l Absolute Show Jumping Championship of the Region of Murcia riding the pony Joyau de Soulac. In 2006, she was awarded the gold medal of the Community Championship of Valencia riding the pony Luciano. In 2007, she obtained the third place in the Pessoa Junior Cup (after Rodrigo Pessoa) in Casas Novas, A Coruña riding the pony Luciano. In the tiebreaker, she committed an error, where "her head drifted away for a moment." In 2009, riding the horse Premiere, she won the gold medal representing Spain at the FEI Nations Cup in Abano Terme, Italy.

Fashion Career

In 2014, She completed a Fashion Folio course at Central Saint Martins. She assisted notable stylists Nick Royal, Hector Castro (Fashion Director-at-Large at 10 Magazine (British magazine) and Carlyne Cerf de Dudzeele in London and Paris.

Art Career

In 2013, Murrell was awarded a second prize at CreaJoven from the Murcia City Council in the discipline of Plastic Arts as part of 'Las Lebowski Collective' with the work 'The Ghost of the Machine'[3][4].[5].

In 2017, she founded DATEAGLE ART.[6] The online arts platform emphasises the importance of slowing down to be more present [6], a theme she lectured about at London College of Communication in 2020. She has also lectured at Berghs School of Communication, Stockholm, Sweden in 2020 and participated in panel talks, radio shows and podcasts with 1020 Radio[7], Agora[8], Art Licks Weekend[9], Artisall[10], Cultivator[11], Elephant West[12], Espacio Fundación Telefónica at the Telefónica Building in Madrid[13], Glass Cloud Gallery[14], Libreria Bookshop[15], Tabula Rasa Gallery[16] and Second Home[17].

From 2020-2022, she was the Art Director of Art Work Magazine[18]. Previously, Murrell worked at Sotheby's and Gagosian Gallery[19].

Writing Murrell has contributed articles, interviews, and reviews to Coeval[20], Dazed[21], émergent[22], Flash Art[23], METAL[24], Soft Punk[25], and Something Curated[26]. The books in which her writing has been published include ‘S.P.A.M. Spreads #2’ (2021), a book about food production in the climate emergency[27] by Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and ‘50 Women Sculptors’ (2020), a book about contemporary female sculpture by Aurora Metro and Supernova Books[28]

Curation Her exhibitions are fluid, adapting and reacting to one another[6]. According to Murrell “it is the role of the curator/s to interpret change and suggest ideas for both the now and the next.”[6]

In 2017 she co-curated The Pink Panther Show at Gallery 46 Whitechapel. It featured new works by 16 artists who responded to an open call on singer, artist and model Evangeline Ling's Instagram account.[2]

In 2018, she co-curated the 48-hour group exhibition Recreational Grounds V in the redundant car park of the Aylesbury Estate, where Tony Blair gave his first speech as Prime Minister in 1997.[6]

In 2019, she co-curated Dark Air, a solo show by artist Gray Wielebinski at SEAGER Gallery, which brought into question the biases and power dynamics/hierarchies that are often involved in storytelling and myth making.[29]

In 2022, she co-curated the year-long virtual exhibition Control The Virus, originally conceived pre-COVID-19|Covid in 2017 as Spread the Virus.[30]

In 2020 and 2022 she curated the HEATWAVE and NEW NOW music playlists for Phillips (auctioneers)|Phillips.

She was awarded with £9,855 and £36,777 Project Grant Awards in 2019 for Dark Air and in 2022 for Control The Virus from the Arts Council England|Arts Council of England.
