University of Salford

The University of Salford is a public institution of higher learning that can be found in Salford, Greater Manchester, England. It is located around 1 mile (1.6 kilometres) west of the city centre of Manchester. Following the recommendations of the Robbins Report on higher education, the Royal Technical Institute, Salford, which first opened its doors in 1896, transformed into a College of Advanced Technology in 1956, and finally received university status in 1967.

There are 21,500 students enrolled there, and it is situated in parkland that spans an area of 160 acres (65 hectares) on the banks of the River Irwell.
