The University of Phoenix (UoPX) is an institution of higher education that is operated for private profit and has its headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. The institution of higher learning was established in 1976 and now awards certificates and degrees at the associate, bachelor's, master's, and doctorate degree levels. It has institutional accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission and maintains an admissions policy that allows for open enrollment in a number of its undergraduate degree programmes. Two private-equity groups based in the United States, Apollo Global Management and Vistria Group, are the owners of the institution.

John Sperling and John D. Murphy are responsible for the establishment of University of Phoenix in 1976. In 1980, it established a presence in San Jose, California, and in 1989, it presented its first online course. A significant portion of UoPX's earnings came from businesses that offered financial assistance to their managers' pursuit of higher education. Academic labour has been unbundled, which means that "certain components of the conventional faculty job (such as curriculum design) are shared among multiple bodies, while others (such as research) are deleted entirely."

On the list of national universities that Washington Monthly published in 2021, UoPX was placed 386th out of 391 total institutions. In the edition of the U.S. News & World Report titled "National Universities" that was published in 2022, the institution was placed 331-440 overall.
