The University of Jos, often known as Unijos, is a Federal University that can be found in Jos, which is located in Plateau State in the middle of Nigeria.

In November of 1971, what was formerly a satellite campus of the University of Ibadan was transformed into what is now known as the University of Jos. The first students were accepted as pre-degree students in January of 1972, and the first Bachelor of Arts degree programme didn't start until October of 1973. In October of 1975, the military government that was in power at the time, led by General Murtala Mohammed, founded the Unijos as its own independent institution. Professor Gilbert Onuaguluchi was the first individual to hold the position of Vice Chancellor at the Unijos. In October of 1976, the newly reformed University of Jos started offering classes to a total of 575 students. These students were distributed among the university's four current faculties: education, arts and social sciences, natural sciences, and medical sciences. In 1977, post-graduate programmes were made available to students. By 1978, the Faculties of Arts and Social Sciences had been split apart, and a Faculty of Law and a Faculty of Environmental Sciences had been founded.

Unijos was awarded a grant of $2 million by the Carnegie Corporation of New York in 2003 so that it could establish its own fundraising department.

Before moving to its current location in Jos, this academic library, which had previously been situated on the grounds of the University of Ibadan, had been founded in 1962 with the intention of fostering teaching, learning, and research. Presently. Along Bauchi road, just across from the Federal College of Forestry in Jos is where you'll find the library. The library is divided up into divisions such as the circulation unit, the system unit, the reserve unit, and the serial unit.
