The University of Illinois at Chicago, often known as UIC, is a public research institution that may be found in Chicago, Illinois. The Near West Side neighbourhood area, which is near to the Chicago Loop, is home to the institution's campus. The Institution of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) is the biggest university in the Chicago metropolitan region and the second campus to be created within the University of Illinois system. UIC has over 33,000 students enrolled in a total of 16 different schools. The designation "R1: Doctoral Universities - Very high research activity" applies to this institution.

The Chicago College of Pharmacy, which was founded in 1859, is the progenitor of the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC). The University of Illinois at Chicago Circle and the University of Illinois at the Medical Center merged into a single institution in 1982, marking the beginning of the university's formal founding year. Today, the university is recognised as a pioneering institution around the globe in a variety of academic fields, including nursing, pharmacy, communication, education, legal studies, and public administration.

UIC's athletic teams, known as the UIC Flames, currently participate in the NCAA Division I Horizon League. The university will join the Missouri Valley Conference in July 2022. Home basketball games for the Flames are played in the Credit Union 1 Arena, which was previously known as the UIC Pavilion.
