Debreceni Egyetem, more often known as the University of Debrecen, is a prestigious educational institution that can be found in Debrecen, Hungary. It has the distinction of being Hungary's oldest higher education institution that is still in operation (since 1538). The university provides a well-established programme in the English language for overseas students, notably in the Medical area, which initially launched instruction in English in 1986. The programme focuses on the English language and its use in medical practise. There are around 6,000 students from other countries currently enrolled at the institution. There have been a total of five alumni who have gone on to win technical Academy Awards (Oscars) up till 2014.

Additionally, the institution manages a Basic Medicine campus affiliated with it in Geochang County, which is located in South Korea.

The Calvinist College of Debrecen was established in 1538 as the first institution of higher education in the city of Debrecen. Throughout the decades that it has been in operation, it has been one of the most important centres of higher education in Hungary. The College was changed into a university in the beginning of the 20th century, and it maintains a close connection and collaboration with the present-day Calvinist College's Debrecen Reformed Theological University.
