The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) of the United States of America is a cabinet-level executive branch department of the federal government of the United States of America. Its primary mission is to safeguard the health of all Americans while also delivering fundamental human services. "Improving the health, safety, and well-being of America" is the slogan of this organisation. In the years leading up to the 1979 establishment of a distinct federal Department of Education, the agency in question was known collectively as the Department of Health, Education, and Welfare (HEW).

The Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is overseen by the Secretary of Health and Human Services, who is chosen by the President of the United States with the advice and permission of the Senate. Xavier Becerra is the one who is now serving in this capacity.

The United States Public Health Service Commissioned Corps is the uniformed service of the PHS, and it is led by the Surgeon General. In addition to his or her primary mission of administering the Commissioned Corps, the Surgeon General is responsible for addressing matters concerning public health as authorised by the secretary or by the Assistant Secretary of Health. This responsibility falls under the Surgeon General's jurisdiction.
