Umar Abro is a Canadian youth political organizer based in the Greater Toronto Area. He is noted for organizing the first Ontario Young Liberals (OYL) riding club in York—Simcoe and for his involvement in local political events in and around Bradford, Ontario.[1]

Early life and education

Abro grew up in Karachi, Pakistan, before moving to Canada. He is currently pursuing an undergraduate degree at the University of Toronto.

Political involvement

Abro was involved in politics from a young age alongside his family in Pakistan and participated in activities connected to the Pakistan People's Party.

In 2023, Abro organized the first OYL York—Simcoe riding club. According to BradfordToday, the inaugural meeting was scheduled for 8 September 2023, with executive positions—including president—set to be acclaimed; Abro had applied for the presidency.[1]

A social-media post later congratulated him on being elected president of the Liberal Youth Club in York-Simoce, Ontario.

Community engagement

In July 2023, a Village Media report covering Liberal leadership hopefuls referenced an Eid Milan event in Bradford and carried a BradfordToday photo from 9 July 2023; the event formed part of broader Liberal community outreach in the region.[2]
