Ucheoma Chidinma Onwutuebe is a Nigerian writer and educator, known for her contributions across short stories, memoirs, scholarly essays, and screenplays. Her story, Man, won Passages North's Waasnode Fiction Prize in 2022.[1] Onwutuebe was named the 2019 Eli Cantor Fellow at Yaddo.[2]

Early Life and Education

Born in Umuahia, Nigeria, Ucheoma Onwutuebe studied Microbiology at Abia State University. She obtained a Masters of Fine Arts from University of Nevada, Las Vegas.[3]

Literary Works

Onwutuebe’s works have appeared in A Public Space, Passages North, Prairie Schooner, Bellevue Literary Review, Catapult, Off Assignment, The Lagos Review, Agbowo, Brittle Paper, Efiko Mag and elsewhere.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Her work has received residencies from The Corporation of Yaddo, Art Omi at The Ledig House and The Anderson Center at Tower View, Minnesota.

She is the winner of Passage North's Waasonde Fiction Prize in 2022 and her essay, A Nigerian Attempts Therapy received a 2023 Pushcart Special Mention.[11][12]
