Uchechukwu Nwafor is a Nigerian politician and a member of the Rivers State Executive Council, having been appointed Commissioner[1] for Energy and Natural Resources in 2022. Nwafor is a member of the People’s Democratic Party.
Early life
Uchechukwu Nwafor was born in Port Harcourt, Nigeria. He served in various political offices as well as engaged in private businesses before his present appointment
Government appointments
On appointment by Governor Wike, Nwafor walked into an office at a time of acute fuel scarcity in Rivers State and immediately faced a situation where he needed to be tough in order to curb part of the scarcity caused by artificial scarcity. He even threatened to shut down petrol stations[2] found to be culpable.
Political career
Nwafor was first appointed as a personal assistant to the Honourable Commissioner for Rivers State Ministry of Transport|Transport, Rivers State, George Tolofari in 2008. He was later appointed Caretaker Committee Chairman of Omuma LGA in Rivers state in May, 2011. He also served as Omuma LGA Council Secretary from June 2011 to May, 2014. He was appointed by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as the governor's liaison officer from 2018 to 2019.
Personal life
Nwafor is married to Uchechi Constance Nwafor, and they have three children, Adanne Michelle, Uchenna Michael, and Obinna Melvin.
