Tymofiy Havryliv (Ukrainian Тимофій Гаврилів; * 1971 in Ivano-Frankivsk, Ukrainian SSR) is an Ukrainian writer, blogger, translator, literary theorist and columnist.
Havryliv made his debut as a poet in 1986 and writes poems, essays, short stories and novels. His works or parts of his works were translated into German, Polish, Norwegian, French and Czech. His essay "Literary perspectives: Ukraine Longing for the novel", published 2007 in English and in German in Eurozine (https://www.eurozine.com/literary-perspectives-ukraine/), was translated in many Languages.
His novels deal with themes of peoples and cultures in the globalization world. In his novel "June Rain" (2018) the plot spans from the period after World War II to the events of recent Ukrainian history – the Maidan and the war. The private stories of representatives of different generations, who are closely intertwined, go hand in hand with the history of the country. The novel's geography stretches from Arkhangelsk in northern Russia to Paris, from Dresden to northern Italy, but the main arena is Ukraine, home of most of the novel's characters and the author. "Acetone" (2022), his newest novel, deals with freedom, love and self-realization. After the fall of the Iron Curtain, Nestor Bozhenko, the protagonist and first-person narrator of the novel, moves to the West, where he becomes a star surgeon and lives his new life to the fullest until he meets his childhood sweetheart again. Acetone emerged as a critical response to the demand for a family saga in contemporary Ukrainian literature. Tymofiy Havryliv was awarded literary prizes for his works.
Havryliv lives and works in Ukraine and in Austria. He writes in Ukrainian. Between 1997 and 2012 he translated also many works of Asutrian and German Literature into Ukrainian.
He wrote also many political essays for newspapers in German and in Austria, which belongs to the current developments in Ukraine, in particular the Orange Revolution and Euromaidan.
His first novel "Where is Your Home, Odysseus?" (2006) was completely translated into German and 2009 published by Ammann Verlag Switzerland in the famous book series "Meridians".
