A turnkey, turnkey project is a sort of project that is developed in such a way that it may be sold to any customer as a finished product. Other names for this type of project include "turnkey," "turnkey project," and "turnkey operation." This is in contrast to practises such as build to order, in which the constructor creates an item according to the exact specifications provided by the buyer, or build to assumption, in which an incomplete product is sold under the assumption that the buyer would complete it.

A turnkey contract is often a construction contract in which a contractor is hired to plan, design, and build a project or an infrastructure as well as execute any other required development work to make it functional or "ready to use" at an agreed upon price and by a defined date. This kind of contract is referred to as "turnkey."

When it comes to turnkey contracts, the majority of the time the main design comes from the employer. The principal design that was submitted by the employer must be adhered to by the contractor.

A complete computer that includes the hardware, operating system, and applications is known as a turnkey computer system. This kind of computer is built and supplied in order to fulfil the needs of a particular organisation.
