Turkka Vuorinen is a Finnish composer, sound designer, and sound artist, known for his original music compositions for various television programs produced by the Finnish Broadcasting Company YLE.[1] His most notable works include scoring for shows such as Puolet Minusta? - Isän DNA:n jäljillä, Mielivaellus, Poronuoret, Lahjat esiin!, and Sohvaset – Täydellisen joulun metsästys. Additionally, he composed the opening track "Intro/The Dawn" for the debut album of the power metal band Dreamtale in 2002, which later became a hit in China with over 430 million streams.
Composer Career
In 2007, Vuorinen founded his own company and began composing professionally for commercials. His first composition for YLE came in 2011,[1] when he scored music for the series Maapallottelua. Since then, he has composed theme music and scores for various TV series. The theme music for Puolet minusta? features the popular Finnish singer Tero Vesterinen and his daughter Unna.
Sound Design
Vuorinen has worked extensively as a sound designer and mixer in numerous YLE television productions,[1] including drama, documentaries, and children's programs. Some of his most well-known works in sound design include Uusi päivä, Mun ainoot 30 minsaa, Haitulan matkassa, Perhejuttu, and Raksahommia.
Sound Art
As a sound artist, Vuorinen creates improvised music and sound art performances both solo and as the artistic and technical producer for ensembles such as Suhina Kollektiivi and Aavakaiku.[2][3] His performances have been featured at venues such as the Sara Hildén Art Museum and Culture House Laikku, as well as in art galleries, museums, cinemas, and outdoor locations. In 2024, he collaborated with actor Timo Torikka on the sound design for Ars Fennica award-winning artist Maaria Wirkkala's exhibition at the Sara Hildén Art Museum.[4]
Bands
Dreamtale
Vuorinen was the keyboardist for the power metal band Dreamtale from 2001 to 2005, during which time the band released three albums: Beyond Reality (2002), Ocean’s Heart (2003), and Difference (2005). He joined Dreamtale on their first tour of China in 2017, making a guest appearance to play part of "The Dawn."[5]
MoonMadness
From 2004 to 2011, Vuorinen played keyboards in the hard rock band MoonMadness. The band released their sole album, All in Between, in 2008, with Vuorinen contributing as a co-writer on all tracks. MoonMadness opened for Bon Jovi at Helsinki Olympic Stadium in June 2008 and has also been an opening act for Deep Purple and Yngwie Malmsteen.[6]

Awards
Koura Awards 2023 – Honorary Award: The show Raksahommia received an honorary mention in the children and youth category at the 2023 Koura Gala. Vuorinen composed the theme music and handled the sound design.[7]
New York Photo Awards 2012 – Multimedia Category Winner: Think of Finland, a mini-documentary directed by Rami Hanafi and featuring Magnum photographer Martin Parr, won the multimedia category. Vuorinen provided the music and sound design.
Personal Life
Vuorinen was inspired to pursue music after seeing the music video for "The Final Countdown" by Europe as a child, sparking his interest in keyboards and synthesizers. An avid hiker, he completed the 3,000 km Te Araroa trail across New Zealand in the 2018–2019 season and the 770 km Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in April 2024. He also spent a month trekking in the Himalayas, reaching Annapurna Basecamp at an altitude of 4,100 meters, and has undertaken several wilderness treks in Lapland.
He studied Indian philosophy for a semester at Amrita Vishwa Vidyapeetham University’s Amritapuri campus and holds a domestic skipper's certificate, having captained inland waterway vessels during twelve summers.
