Torxem is a small village of 996 hectares in Pernem Tehsil in North Goa district, known and rated to have the best quality of life in India (based on the commission’s “12 Indicators”)[2] in the state of Goa, India.[3] The village is administrated by a sarpanch who is elected representative of the village by the local elections. Torxem depends on PERNEM, the nearest town for all major economic activities.[4] The village has government-provided water facilities that include One tap, One Well supply, which is 2.00% of the total supply, Two tanks, Two tubewells, and Two handpumps. The villagers also acquire water from some of the natural water sources - Two rivers, Two canals and Two springs. Torxem is also surrounded by Two lakes. The population of the village depends on the source of drinking water during summer on Tap. Torxem's pin code is 403512[5], and village code is 00001300. The area of Torxem is segregated as 26.5 hectares irrigated area, 546.95 hectares unirrigated, the 135.34 hectare area under culturable waste (including gauchar and groves), and remaining 241.55 hectare area not available for cultivation.

Torxem has One post office (Torxem B.O) and Three public telephones. The village is connected with a single bus service. Torxem has Two banks and Two credit societies for the regulation of economic activity. The village is also equipped with One recreational center.

The village has an uninterrupted 24 hours electric supply from a power grid.

Demographics

Torxem is a census village in the district of North Goa, Goa. The village has a total population of 2405 and has total administration over 553 houses which are connected to supplies basic amenities like water and sewerage.

  • Scheduled caste counts for 189 (7.86%) males constitute 91 (3.78%) of the population and females 98 (4.07%).

They depend on the agricultural markets (Mandi) of the nearby towns of PERNEM and North Goa to sell country liquor and make their living.
