Tore Nordin, born in 1932, was a prominent Swedish engineer.[1] He worked at ASEA/ABB/Adtranz from 1958 to 1997. From 1969 until his retirement in 1997, he was a senior engineer responsible for the design and development of electric locomotives, rolling stock and high-speed trains. In 1980, Tore Nordin received a gold medal from the Royal Academy of Engineering Sciences for his development work in the field of thyristor-controlled locomotives and high-speed trains on conventional tracks.[2]

Notable was Tore's development and production of the Rc locomotive during the 1960s. What distinguishes the Rc locomotive from previous models is that it is thyristor controlled. This means that the motors can both be run with direct current, as well as alternating current which is rectified. The locomotive series was a great export success for Asea and Sweden's largest locomotive series ever. Asea supplied locomotives to Austria, Norway, Australia, the USA, Iran and South Africa during the latter part of the 20th century.[3]

Tore has authored and co-authored several books, including "Svenska Ellok", published in 1998 as the Swedish Railway Club's writing series no. 67, "Svenska Elmotorvagnar" published in 2003 in the Swedish Railway Club's writing series no. 2012 in the Swedish Railway Club's writing series no. 86.[4]
