Tony Bass

Tony Bass (Born 1963/4) is an Irish gaelic games administrator who served as the 9th Chairperson of Gaelic Games Europe from 2017-2020[1]. He is from Dublin, Ireland and lives in Maastricht in the Netherlands.

Biography

Bass is a former secretary of the Cuala G.A.A. club in County Dublin where he was instrumental in developing the juvenile section of the club with Damian Byrne, former Dublin hurling team goalkeeper[2]. He contested the election for Chairperson of Dublin GAA in 1999[3]. In 2004, Bass became secretary of Gaelic Games Europe, a position he held until 2014 and was the first European delegate to the Central Council of the Gaelic Athletic Association|GAA from 2012-2017. In 2017 he was elected Chairperson and served for three years[4].

During this time, Bass lobbied for international recognition of gaelic games and advocated for gaelic games to become an Olympic sports[5]. His contribution to developing gaelic games internationally was recognised with a GAA President's Award in 2021
