Tim Heintz (born August 22, 1961 in Sacramento, California) is an American composer, arranger, keyboardist, and music director whose diverse career spans film, television, live performance, and themed entertainment.[1] As a seasoned session musician, he has recorded and toured with artists such as Chaka Khan, Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, and Al Jarreau, while also releasing a series of solo smooth jazz albums. In film and television, Heintz has contributed additional music to blockbuster films like Enemy of the State, Gone in 60 Seconds, and One Hour Photo, and composed for numerous TV series and commercials. He is especially known for his work with Disney, including his orchestral arrangements for the acclaimed Happily Ever After nighttime spectacular at Magic Kingdom and original compositions for Disneyland Paris shows.[2][3][4] His music can be heard across theme parks, PBS specials, worship settings, and international projects—demonstrating a dynamic blend of technical excellence and emotional storytelling.[5]

Career
Session Musician and Touring Artist
Heintz gained prominence in the 1980s and 1990s as a versatile session musician, working in jazz, rock, R&B, and worship music. He programmed synths and played keyboard for artists such as Lee Ann Rimes (Desperate Housewives Soundtrack), Sara Evans and the Warren Bros (the film “Where the Heart Is”), John Tesh, George Benson and many others.[7][8]
He toured extensively, serving as keyboardist and musical director for notable performers including Chaka Khan (3 years), Michael McDonald, Boz Scaggs, and John Tesh.[9]
Solo Smooth Jazz Artist
Between 1987 and 1992, Heintz released five solo albums in the smooth jazz genre, including his track “Dear Jacqui,” which has remained a standard on jazz radio formats.[10][11]
Film, TV, and Media Composition
Heintz has composed additional music and scores for a variety of high-profile films and TV productions, including:
- Enemy of the State (1998), One Hour Photo (2002), Gone in 60 Seconds (2000)
- Bad Boys II (2003), Where the Heart Is (2000)
- TV theme and score work includes 101 Dalmatians: The Series, Bobby’s World, Sister, Sister, The Waltons: Homecoming[12]and others.[13]
He has also composed for commercials, Disney & Universal theme parks, and various TV series.[14]
Musical Direction for PBS Specials
Heintz was musical director for PBS specials, including Damian & Friends (2001, Bucharest) and Breaking the Rules (2003) featuring Denyce Graves, Patti LaBelle, and Take 6.[15]
Theme Park Productions
Heintz was the arranger for Happily Ever After, Magic Kingdom’s flagship nighttime spectacular. Debuting May 12, 2017, the 18‑minute show features an original theme song by Watts/Dodd/Pierce (performed by Angie Keilhauer & Jordan Fisher), with Heintz integrating the orchestral backing by a 75‑piece London symphony and arranging evocative Disney favorites from The Little Mermaid to Moana. Designed with fireworks, projection mapping, lasers, and searchlights, the show ran until September 29, 2021, and was re‑introduced in April 2023 with new Main Street projections while retaining Heintz’s musical direction.[16]
Philanthropy and Recent Work
Heintz has been involved in fundraising music events, including support for Lily of the Valley Children’s Village in South Africa where he lived with his family for over a year in 2005.[17][18][19]
Personal Life
Heintz has been married to Sharon Heintz since April 29,1995, and they have three children.[20]
