Tim Cartmell is a Canadian politician and professional engineer. He has served on Edmonton City Council since 2017, representing Ward pihêsiwin.[1] In November 2024, Cartmell announced his candidacy for mayor in the upcoming 2025 Edmonton municipal election.[2]

Early life and education

Cartmell was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Alberta and later completed a Master of Engineering in Engineering Management.[3]

Professional career

Before his election to city council, Cartmell worked as a structural engineer and project manager.[3] He later founded a consulting practice and held advisory roles in the public sector, focusing on infrastructure planning and project delivery.[4]

Political career

Cartmell was first elected to Edmonton City Council in 2017, representing Ward 9.[5] He was re-elected in the 2021 municipal election to represent the newly named Ward pihêsiwin.[6]

On council, he has served on committees including urban planning, regional development, and audit,[7] and has also been a board member of the Fort Edmonton Park Management Company.[8]

Mayoral candidacy (2025)

In May 2025, Cartmell announced his candidacy for mayor of Edmonton.[9] At the same time, he founded the Better Edmonton Party, a civic political group formed to support his campaign.[10]

Community involvement

Cartmell received the Engineers Canada Meritorious Service Award for Community Service in 2014.[3]
