Tiernan Brooks (born June 17, 2002) is an Irish footballer who plays for Notts County F.C. and the Republic of Ireland national under-21 football team.

Career

Born in Sheffield,[2] Brooks was a trainee at Sheffield Wednesday prior to joining the Notts County academy.[3] During the 2019-20 season Brooks spent time on loan at Lincoln United. He created an impression with Lincoln chairman Rob Bradley describing reports of him as “the best young goalkeeper I’ve ever seen”.[4] He spent time with Worksop Town F.C. in late 2020[5] and August 2021,[6] and in February 2022 he also spent time on loan at Coalville Town.[7]

Brooks signed a new three-year contract with Notts County in June 2022.[8] Brooks then had loan spells with Hednesford Town and Boston United during the 2022-23 season prior to his Notts County debut on March 4, 2023 against Bromley.[9] He saved a penalty against Bromley eight minutes into his debut.[10] First-choice goalkeeper Sam Slocombe remained sidelined with an injury and Brooks was given a run of games, including a home debut at Meadow Lane.[11] His performances were reported to be going from “strength to strength” during this period.[12]

International career

Brooks also qualifies to represent Ireland through roots in Sligo.[13] He made his debut for the Republic of Ireland national under-21 football team starting on March 26, 2023 in a 2-1 win against Iceland U21.[14]
