Career
In 1991, near the beginning of Thomas' career he worked as a special effects technician on Terminator 2: Judgment Day marking it as his first movie he worked on to break half a billion in the box office. Five years later in 1996, Thomas along side co worker and friend Joe Viskocil[1] helped in the iconic scene of exploding the white house in Independence Day (1996 film)|Independence Day.[2] In that same year he took part in a now lost short documentary titled: Special Effects: Anything Can Happen[3] helping to establish him as a part of the Special Effects community. Now just two years later Thomas would happily play a part in the culturally important 1998 Godzilla (1998 film), in this film and many others Thomas worked his magic in the many miniatures seen on screen. Approaching the turn of the century in 1999 Thomas worked as a SPFX Technician in the fan favorite Inspector Gadget (film). Moving to the 21 century from 2000-2006 a few of the notable productions under his belt are as follows: Mission: Impossible 2, The Haunted Mansion (film), I, Robot (film), Robot and War of the Worlds (2005 film). Not to mention in 2004 Thomas took part in the ridiculous and hilarious film Team America: World Police.[4] Now on to 2007, for the next 10 years he would take part in many classic movies like The Avengers (2012 film), Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Star Trek Into Darkness and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to only name a few. 2007 also marks his first involvement in a marvel studios film with the awesome debut Iron Man (2008 film)[5] film, and it would not be his last. 2017 to 2021 for Thomas would be home to the massively successful pair of films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.[6] The two movies went on to easily break into the top 10 most grossing films ever made.
Music Boxes
One of Thomas' jobs outside of the film production was making and crafting various annual music boxes under the billionaire and philanthropist Sam Zell.[7] Who is despite the name not related to Thomas in any way. The now discontinued production of these music boxes produced valuable, painstakingly crafted pieces. While not always taking themselves all that serious many of these works were in one way or another of a political nature, many of which including a short political commentary or even a poem from Sam Zell himself.[7]
