Thomas Ramge (born 1971) is a German non-fiction author and researcher. His work focuses on radical innovation and artificial intelligence. He holds a PhD in sociology of technology from the Braunschweig University of Art and he is an associated researcher at the Einstein Center Digital Future in Berlin..[1]

Work

Ramge has authored and co-authored more than twenty books, including some that triggered significant public discourse: "Who’s Afraid of AI? Fear and Promise in the Age of Thinking Machines", "On the Brink of Utopia – Reinventing Innovation to Solve the World’s Largest Problems and Reinventing" (with Rafael Laguna de la Vera) and "Capitalism in the Age of Big Data" (with Viktor Mayer-Schönberger). His essays and long-reads have been published in Harvard Business Review, MIT Sloan Management Review, Foreign Affairs, and The Economist, as well as in the German publications Die Zeit, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Welt am Sonntag, and brand eins.

His co-authored book “Reinventing Capitalism in the Age of Big Data” has stirred an international debate on how to deal with data monopolies with articles in the New York Times [2] the FINANCE & DEVELOPMENT journal published by the IMF [3] and in the Financial Times [4].

Ramge and Mayer-Schönberger followed up on this idea in their book “Access Rules – Freeing Data from Big Tech for a Better Future”, highlighting the role of sharing data for fostering innovation. Which has been discussed e.g. by Sloan Review[5] , Georgetown University Public Policy Review[6] and Time.com [7]

Ramge is a trained radio and television journalist and hosts the podcast of the German Federal Agency for Disruptive Innovations[8] where he interviewed top innovators and thought leaders like Sebastian Thrun or Stefan Hell.
