Thomas Martindale (1845–1916) was an American grocer, tea importer, hunter, and author who lauded the outdoors. He was an advocate of health foods and physical activity. He also supported infrastructure investments and innovations.[1]

He was born in England and spent early years in Canada.[2] He acquired a half interest in an Oil City, Pennsylvania store eventually taking it over and expanding. He then established a store in Philadelphia. His advertising included educational and instructional content.[2] He served as the Poor Richard Club's first president[2] and was a founder of the Philadelphia Trades League.[3]

Strawbridge & Clothier published his book Royal Sport, I Warrant You and displayed it amongst his hunting "trophies".[4] He was active in political issues facing grocers such as a proposed bill requiring products be sold be weights and measures.[5]

A Martindale's store in Springfield continues in existence.[6][7][8] He sold liquor and Three decorative whiskey jugs produced for his business are collectible.[9]
